Letters of objection have been sent to justice secretary Kenneth Clark and prisons minister Crispin Blunt in regards to plans to close Newton Abbot’s magistrates court.

Teignbridge councillors are lobbying to save the courthouse from closure - they want to replace the Newton Abbot building with a purpose built courthouse serving the whole of South Devon.

Teignbridge councillor Marie Jenkins says the South Devon magistrates bench had favoured a “united court in Newton Abbot.”

Deputy Mayor Chris Lewis has asked council officers to draw up a new report to members detailing recent changes to the proposed lease of Churston Golf Club.

The controversial £20million pounds development of Churston Golf Club is set to be considered by the cabinet on October the 12th - and Mr Lewis wants to assure local people that everything about the deal is ‘transparent’.

Three local football clubs in South Devon are being threatened with closure – unless they find somewhere for their younger players to play football matches.

Broadmeadow, Shaldon and Teignmouth FC will all fold unless they find a permanent playing field.

Two police officers have been reprimanded by senior officers for taking a ride on a ‘zip wire’ while investigating a burglary at an activity centre in Torquay.

After being caught on film by a witness, the un-named pair have now realised that their actions were ‘inappropiate’.

And finally, fans of Agatha Christie flocked to Torquay seafront yesterday to mark the opening of a week long festival to celebrate her work.

Highlights of the festival includes performances of ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ at the Princess Theatre, as well as mystery tours and a birthday fireworks display on Corbyn Head.

Dame Agatha was born 120 years ago on this coming Wednesday.

Sport next, and Torquay United are sitting pretty back at the top of the table after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Accrington Stanley at Plainmoor.

Gulls boss Paul Buckle has also revealed he’s in talks to sign ex Millwall and Wycombe defender Danny Senda.

Elsewhere in Sport this weekend, in Rugby Brixham secured their second win of the season after beating Avonmouth 22-11 in the South West One division, and Torquay saw off Devonport by 27-0 in the Western Counties league.

Onto the weather now, and it should be generally dry with variable cloud, occasionally thick enough for some light rain and showers near the western coasts. There will be gusty, westerly winds increasing throughout the day. Temperatures are set to range from 15 to 19 degrees celcuis.
